The gender system will only be undermined through the long-tern, persistent accumulation of everyday challenges to the system resulting from socioeconomic change and individual resistance

The reason why I am undertaking this module. :)

I really did love Glee's version of Smooth Criminal. Naya Rivera and Grant Gustin killed it.

Unfortunately, after listening to an acapella version of the song (done by Glee), and actually hearing the lyrics, well, it is no longer as enjoyable.

As he came into the window
It was the sound of a crescendo
He came into her apartment
He left the bloodstains on the carpet

More lyrics under cut )

- Smooth Criminal

Yep, the lyrics is about violence against a woman. Nope. Not enjoyable at all. Instead, I am listening to the Glee Cast version of Bad instead.

Also, David Archuleta was/is in SG! Whee! Glad that he is still popular and doing international tours.

...there is no evidence that harassment does indeed depend on women's outfits.
- Urban Space in Plural: Elastic, Tamed, Suppressed, Hille Koskela

Ugh, one of the things I hate the most about victim-blaming in rape culture is the tendency to blame any incident on the state of the victim's dress. THERE IS NO EVIDENCE THAT PROVES THIS CORRELATION IS TRUE.

Another quote:
It is not an inborn quality of women to be fearful.
We are taught by society. :(

I am not going to give my kids of different gender different safety speeches. They are going to get exactly the same thing, while still contextualising for their age and group of friends they hangout with. I will do so by explicitly mentioning the different societal responses taught, and clearing it up for them. No such thing as the guy can stay out late, but the girl can't.

Phones blur the lines between presence and absence, public and private. Really cool to consider how tech changes how we perceive space.
