Forums

Does anyone read forums? I like it when it generates intelligent discussion (and trolls+people who call them out). Of course, I am not saying that I don't enjoy mindless squeeing threads as well. I went through Extra Credits latest forum thread and found some gems.

Jsyk, I am idealistic, and I will always want better experiences.

Don't you think it's unfair that movies about the war in Iraq are Oscar nominated, but games about the war in Iraq is brought down in a shitstorm of controversy?
I'm only concerned about whether I will enjoy playing the game, not whether it reinforces any stereotype.
Good for you. Perhaps it will take time, but such attitudes will hurt the gaming industry one day.
There's far more going on here than some really bad, even insulting to it's own fan base, commercials for some mediocre games.
First Amendment court case that is ongoing. I am keeping one eye on it.
With EA on one side, and Fox News on the other, it's going to be good times ahead.
Well, for anyone who likes watching toddlers bite each other's faces off in the playground, that is.
Both sides are hysterical, and I wish that they weren't in charge because they misrepresent their side's point of view.
A: But precisely because we can have good and bad meaningful experiences, means that surely we should invest in making these experiences good, whatever their intended meaning should be?

That is Extra Credit's argument. They don't believe that every game should be artistic, as such. Nor should every film, song, or book. That much is obvious. I would challenge you to find a video where they say otherwise, that every game should be art, I haven't seen it.

B: You know, there are people who are feeling like they are making that point. So maybe they should be more clear.

A: Perhaps, though I'm fairly sure they said as much in other videos. It certainly never comes across that way to me. Though with the attention given to progress and development I guess it easily slips into that territory.
Yeah well, Extra Credits can get preachy at times. But that's what I like about it. It aims for games to be better than they are.
Stop excusing the tasteless boilerplate material. It generates support for that material, and before long it becomes the standard (and unfortunately it is the current standard).
