We must lead by example. When we allow our children to witness us do nothing while another spirit is torn before our eyes, we are failing them. We are failing everyone. Ourselves, our children, the victims and the perpetrators, the passers by… there is no one who is not harmed by our inaction. In that moment we are teaching them that not everyone is a person. That not all are worthy of protection. That bigotry and racism and sexism and hatred are fine.

That it’s fine if they do it to others.

That it’s fine if it is done to them.
