On Writing

One day, I hope to become a writer of fiction. I hope that I will be given the opportunity to travel, because what frustrates me the most is my inability to capture places and scenes where I have never been before. I have to experience it, before I can describe it. Maybe it means that I don't have as much imagination as others, but the fact is that my writing comes out sucky when it isn't backed by experience.

I can't get the way they talk right, can't get the way they experience everything right.

I know that living in LA is different from living in Boston, which is different from New York. But the details always eludes me, and to me, that is the essence of excellent worldbuilding. The details.

I want to see Italy, see Russia, see Germany, see USA. Thailand, Japan, Korea. I haven't been to many places, and I need that experience. Want to get the way they talk exactly right, get the way they react to situations. That it isn't some imagination that I have, but to really experience it.

It is the reason why I like Generation Kill. As authentic as it comes.

Just, I want to travel. And write.
