Glee: 3x13 Heart
Feb. 15th, 2012 05:28 pmThere is a lot of reasons why people can think that Glee is merely a mediocre show, a show that thrive only because of osng dance and pop culture. There is a reason why people can deride Glee's narrative. Look at last week's ep. Other than Santana calling out Will for being a terrible human being, the entire ep was appalling despite Ricky Martin guest starring.
But at the same time, Glee can be so good. This week's episode, where do I even begin? Rachel's dads making their long awaited appearance, the way they are as domestic as any other couple, no fanfare. Even in the midst of the trainwreck that is the Samcedes relationship, and the Finchel engagement discussion, the ep is still good. I am on the fence regarding the storyline on Brittana, whether it is a f**k you to fandom or to the network. Sugar's storyline is brilliant and so sweet, perfect for the character. Nice side intro to Joe Hart, and he doesn't seem threatening to any of the existing Glee club members, so he'll fit in.
And of course, the Kurt Hummel storyline. My dislike for Karofsky is clearly evident, but every single time, Glee manages to develop his character in some direction, which is more than I can say for other regular characters. I was prepared to dislike him in this ep, but the way he opened himself up, and the way Kurt shut him down firmly but kindly definitely redeemed the storyline for me. I do want the Karofsky storyline to end, and I hope that it will be resolved by next week.
And the final song. Everything I want in the world. Just, so much to say about it. The way that both Kurt and Blaine are established as guys, who are in a relationship, I saw that again in this ep. Blows me away everytime. This time, they get handsy with each other and that they get to express themselves in public. Wow.
