So I spent yet another few hours that I do not have to complete reading Catching Fire and Mockingjay. And once again, I remember why I dislike reading published fiction nowadays. They end. They end, and leave me hanging, wondering for more. And they are never properly resolved, or resolved in a manner way too rushed.

In the Hunger Games series, the slew of deaths near the end is terrible, because there is no time to process it. Did she have the idea to do this from Harry Potter? It is difficult to not make comparisons. Also, the resolution is terrible. Like Katniss never had the time, and the audience never actually have the time to process what the bombing of District 12 might mean. Yes, many great events were glossed over, and it leaves so much gaps in the writing. That is the issue with fiction growing over a series. The first book is amazing because it kept its focus on Katniss and her aim to win the Hunger Games. The second book was rather decent, because it still kept its focus on Katniss and her views and actions of rebellion. In Mockingjay, trying to demonstrate the scale of the rebellion is just too much. Where previously Katniss was a central character, it is obvious that Katniss is only a pawn in the third book. The sense of loss from the series of deaths near the end of the third book doesn't help it at all.

Also, as amazing as the world building is, I want an encyclopedia on the world before the rebellion. How each district survived. Dare I say I want another Hunger Games?

Katniss gets tiresome as a protagonist in the third book. She was amazing in the first book, and good in the second. But in the third book, she just gets hit constantly, without any time for recovery. Yes, the third book is the weakest, which is unfortunate because to me this series ends with a whimper. I want to know more about Peeta and Katniss recovery. How is Annie doing. What is Gale doing. I desperately hate the way Cinna was written out. I want to know his life story. I want to know more about the love story of Finnick and Annie. I want to know more about Rue.

The first book remains amazing though, once you get through the first 7 or so chapters. I love the entire description of the Hunger Games and the process in it. It should be read, and maybe even mandatory readings in school. I love me a strong, if slightly oblivious, female protagonist.

Basically, I dislike the way they leave me so unsatisfied. Maybe this is the reason why people write fanfiction in the first place. I can read another hundred thousand words about the recovery process of Katniss and Peeta.  Final analysis: I NEED MOAR. And I am really not willing to wade through a hundred crappy fan fics to find that one good fic. I can't wait for the movie so that I can relive the whole first book again.
